Technique description
Tori engages Uke by holding the back of his collar with the right hand and his right sleeve with the left hand.
Tori then moves backward on the left foot, followed by the right foot, and then the left foot again, using the tsugi-ashi form. Simultaneously, he pulls Uke downwards with both hands. In response, Uke advances on the right foot, then the left foot, and finally the right foot again, also in the tsugi-ashi form. Being pulled forward, Uke holds his ground and begins to straighten up to regain his original stable posture.
When Tori lessens the pulling action with both hands, Uke straightens up. At this moment, Tori steps his right foot inside the tip of Uke’s right foot, assuming a right han-mi posture. He lifts up with the right hand and pulls up with the left hand, effectively breaking Uke’s balance towards his front right corner.
Tori then releases his right grip, thrusting his arm deeply over Uke’s left shoulder and wrapping it around the back of Uke’s neck, securing the neck with his bent forearm. Pivoting on the tip of his right foot, Tori steps his left foot back inside Uke’s left foot and turns around in a large motion. He projects his waist outward from Uke’s right side, using both hands to pull Uke’s body tightly against his own.
Leaning forward and opening his body to the left, Tori synchronizes the movement of the right arm holding Uke’s neck and the left pulling hand. He draws Uke’s body through an ellipse by twisting his body to the left. Finally, he throws Uke over his hips in a circular motion and down to the ground. Uke is thrown in a circle around the fulcrum of Tori’s torso, completing the Koshi-guruma.
