Throwing techniques
Nage-waza
Nage-waza (Throwing techniques) are techniques in which Uke is brought out of his original position or stance and is brought to the ground by the use of a technique.
They are used in Tachi-waza (Standing techniques) and Sutemi-waza (Sacrifice techniques) divided.
Tachi-waza further in Te-waza (Hand techniques), Koshi-waza (Hip techniques) and Ashi-waza (Foot- & Leg techniques) divided. Sutemi-waza in Ma-sutemi-waza (Supine sacrifice techniques) and Yoko-sutemi-waza (Side sacrifice techniques).
All throwing techniques use the hand, foot or leg and hip. For reasons of expediency, this classification was made, with the designation derived from the body part whose function is most obvious or plays the main role in each case.
